PARKING METERS
The cost to park at a meter is $1.50 per hour in Downtown Halifax and $3.00 per hour on the Halifax Waterfront. Meters take any combination of 5, 10, or 25 cent coins, and $1 or $2 coins. Maximum available time is indicated on the face of the meter and the meter clock displays time in hours and minutes purchased.
*Depositing more coins than required will not extend the maximum time limit of the meter. If you deposit a $2.00 coin into a meter with a maximum time limit of 30 minutes, you will only receive 30 minutes of paid parking.
ON-STREET PARKING
On- Street parking may require special considerations when it comes to loading zones, winter parking and special events.
LOADING ZONES
Unless otherwise indicated, a loading zone is only in effect on weekdays between the hours of 6:00am to 6:00pm. They are available for general public parking at all other times. When a loading zone is in effect, parking will result in your vehicle being ticketed or towed. Please make note of the times they are in effect.
WINTER PARKING
Please visit halifax.ca/snow for up-to-date information regarding winter parking bans, especially if the weather conditions are deteriorating or if storm warnings are in effect. When the winter parking ban is in effect, parking vehicles between 1:00am and 6:00am is restricted on streets in most communities under the HRM Traffic Authority. During the winter parking ban tickets can be issued for obstruction of snow removal.
SPECIAL EVENTS
When special events are scheduled in Halifax, such as a parade, a film shoot, fireworks, tree lighting, or construction zones, signs will inform you that parking in those areas is restricted.
